Even though St Lucia boasts the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean, there lots of things to do in St Lucia and places to visit in St Lucia than just sun, sea and sand. The island’s unique topography, its staggering verdant mountains dropping off spectacularly into crystal clear sea; its rivers, waterfalls, rainforest and rare exotic flora, make it a fascinating tropical paradise to explore.
There are many beautiful secluded waterfalls on the island, with crisp clear plunge pools to bathe in, surrounded by beautiful tropical plants and flowers.
Visit the Diamond falls and Botanical Gardens in Soufriere, in the shadow of the breathtaking Pitons, and enjoy a mineral bath in hot springs, in water renowned for centuries for its curative powers.
For the more adventurous, why not try zip lining through the rainforest canopy, for a back to nature thrill amidst breathtaking scenery and rare local wildlife. Look out for the rare St Lucian Parrot or Oriole.
If zip lining seems a little on the daring side you can always enjoy a relaxing ride through the tree canopy by cable car.
Many of the most beautiful sites to be seen in St Lucia are found under the sea, where there are a myriad of beautiful reefs and ecosystems, with dazzling coral and tropical fish aplenty.
St Lucia is a fabulous place to scuba dive, and there are many reputable dive operators on the island. Dive the stunning coral gardens right between the Pitons, or explore the amazing wreck sunk in Anse Cochon Bay, where you will often find yourself swimming alongside a beautiful hawksbill turtle.
If scuba diving is not your thing, then the snorkeling around the island is equally fantastic.
Take a boat trip down the west coast and admire the stunning scenery of St Lucia from the sea, stop off at Anse Chastanet beach for some of the best snorkeling on the island.
On the east coast, around easter time, you can experience the magic of watching the leatherback turtles nesting on the beach at night. The east and south coasts also have some great beaches for windsurfing and kite-surfing, with opportunities for beginners to learn this exciting water sport.
There are some wonderful opportunities for hiking all over the island. Fond d’Or park in Dennery offers miles of hiking and nature trails and horseback riding.
If you don’t feel like walking, you can hire an ATV and drive through acres of tropical forest, beach and plantation.
For the really adventurous, there is always the option to climb one of St Lucia’s majestic Pitons.
The hike is not for the faint hearted, but the panoramic view from the top out across both sides of the island and south to St Vincent is something that you will remember for the rest of your life!
Boat trips are very popular in St Lucia. There are many well planned excursions ranging from a champagne sunset cruise to a trip out on a pirate ship for the kids. Day cruises often feature music and dancing.
